The Closing of the Burton Theatre: an End????????

February 5, 2011 No Comments

The abrupt closing this week of the wonderful Burton Theatre leaves a giant gap in Detroit’s film presence.  The films screened over the past two years  provided cinephiles the opportunity to ahare an array of films rarely available anywhere.  The small auditorium tucked inside the old Burton School on Cass Avenue and Peterboro provided a unique venue.  The four young film buffs who created the Burton experience creatively mixed a schedule that managed to include Goddard, Herzog an  Sirk along side Japanese horror, documentary and of course repeated screenings of Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room” (Hi Denny!!!!!!!!!!!!)…..The Reel Deal promises to keep everyone up to date with any plans to change the venue and continue the mission to provide Detroiters with the reel film deal….thank you thank you thank you!!!!!   jww
