Cinetopia International Film Festival – Ann Arbor

June 3, 2012 No Comments

If you weren”t there this weekend, you missed it….Ann Arbor’s Cinetopia hosted over 30 films ranging from silent gems (Harold Lloyd’s The Freshman”), a 3D version of the 1954 “Creature From the Black Lagoon” to current indie film festival favorites such as “Juan of the Dead,” “28 Hotel Rooms,” “5 Broken Cameras” and “Hipsters”….this was the first event for this festival, and hopefully, not the last.   Although it lacks the sparkle of Cannes or the celebrity presence of Toronto, this event has promise……movies screened at three different venues (the Michigan Theatre, the State Theatre and Angell Hall) from May 31-June 3, providing the opportunity to sample films that may never be seen outside the festival circuit……

Film festivals are satisfying events that provide cinephiles with the opportunity to screen multiple films of many kinds in a single day….ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!   If you can’t make it to Toronto or London or Cannes,  check out the films screened here this year and mark your calendars for next year!   (You’ll probably end up reserving a spot in  Toronto as well…it’s contagious!)…….see you at the movies!  Jolyn Wagner
