And the Oscar Nominations Are:

January 12, 2013 No Comments

140Well, the Academy has posted its selections for the pinnacle of cinema for 2012.  Do you agree?  What are the most disturbing snubs?   I, for one, am saddened by the snubbing of “Moonrise Kingdom” for best picture and Wes Anderson for best director and ignoring “The Master”.    Ignoring Kathyrn Bigelow seems like a PC slight, but I an not seeing the movie until Sunday.  I am not saddened that Ben Affleck was omitted(an entertaining movie, ok, but not “the best”).  Including a “foreign” film like Amour in the Best Picture category is very progressive!!!!! So, we have some talking to do.  Here are the nominations for Best Picture and Best Director:

Best Picture:

Argo, Django Unchained, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Les Miserables, Amour, Beast of the Southern Wild, Silver Lining Playbook

Best Director:

Michael Haneke(Amour), Behn Zietlin(Beast of the Southern Wild), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook)

My choice:   Best Picture:  Life of Pi (but I have not seen Amour yet)

Best Director:  Behn Zietlin (but again, I have not seen Amour and Michael is one of my very favorite directors)
