The 40th anniversary celebration of the Detroit Film Theater: January 10-13

January 2, 2014 No Comments

dft summerMovie geeks, cinephiles and cineastes united this weekend to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Detroit Film Theater.

There were ten films screened, offered at 1974 prices.  Those who attended the wonderful strolling dinner in the Rivera Court on Saturday evening celebrated the success of the DFT and sipped champagne in the balcony while watching the 1931 cult classic “Spanish Dracula” (which is much better when viewed with champagne, btw)

The range of films captured the depth and diversity that we have enjoyed over the years.  The Reel Deal pre-discussion of Talk to Her on Friday night provided an overview of the questions raised by Almodovar’s masterpiece:  what is the nature of love?  Can rape be moral?

We are unbelievably fortunate to have the programming provided to us by curator Elliot Wilhelm and the DFT.   The winter schedule kicks off this weekend.  Check out the schedule on the DFT website.

See you at the DFT!
